My testimony on Haku’s gender starts out like any testimony on any subject. I believe that Haku was a girl. Do not try to sway me from this opinion and do not post mean comments about this testimony, for if you do these comments will simply be ignored and you will be wasting your own time. You do not in any way need to read this. Don’t bother with doing so if you’re only going to insult me. But, if you are a Haku fan, you may want to at least give my testimony a skim.

The first piece of proof I have is the way Haku speaks. In the Japanese version of the anime, they all speak Japanese, obviously. Well in the Japanese language they have different words for "I" or "me". These words are divided up into the two genders. Males tend to use "ore" or "boku" to refer to themselves. Females tend to use "atashi" or "atakushi". Haku uses "boku" the most. However, "boku" is a masculine form of speech and girls have been known to use boku, especially if they are tomboyish. Surprise surprise. The boys in the series use "ore", not "boku". However, in the same arc Haku slips up in her manner of speech as well. In at least two instances Haku uses "atakushi" and "akashi" to refer to herself. These are STRICTLY female speak words, and she used them first in a time of shyness and then second in a time of truthfulness. The first was when talking about Zabuza's body, and the second was when telling Naruto about her past. So in reality, the Japanese version outlines the hidden storyline of Haku being a female by changing up the words she used to refer to herself using feminine speech. The American version on the other hand only uses unisex words for self reference. So it is less detailed in that area than the original.

One of the most important aspects of Haku I think was her strength. Obviously she was not physically strong or powerful, just as most Kunochi in the series are not physically strong. So what I'm talking about are her inner strengths. Haku had a devotion and protective instinct that was wifely and at times even motherly. Like when she sat with Zabuza when he was recovering and broke Gatou's arm when he tried to grab Zabuza. Then when she snatched the swords from the hands of Gatou's guards and held them to their own throats, it showed that another one of her strengths was speed and precision. That is what she used to make up for her lack of physical strength.
Finally, another strength, which she considered a weakness because Zabuza did not want it, was her desires to let others live. She even admitted that of herself. Her compassion and kindness really had an effect on Naruto, and it was because of her that Naruto changed his own shinobi way to be his own kind of shinobi, rather than just a weapon.

Another theory is that Kishimoto wanted to test his readers on this. He simply created a mystery, gave only information that could have been deception or misinterpretations, and waited to see how many fans could see the truth. It seems that only about 10% percent of us Naruto fans, if that many, believe that Haku is a girl. This actually seems normal because in the Naruto world, 10% is about how many ninja of any given rank graduate to the next rank up. If I am right, we may have proven ourselves to be the TRUE fans, the jonin level anime fanatics, at least in Kishimoto's eyes.

So, there is my little testimony/rant. Maybe this has persuaded you to be a little more open-minded about Haku’s gender. Or maybe I just wasted ten minutes of your life. Either way, thank you for reading!

I believe Haku is a girl but there is one thing you said that I don't agree with. You said she wasn't physically strong but thats not right. After Zabuza's first battle with Kakashi she paralyzed him and carried away both Zabuza and his Kubikiri Hōchō(and that's a big ass sword). But yeah I agree Haku is a girl. They probally just changed it in the dubbed version of the manga and anime. :twocents:
